How You Can Build A Simple Bird Feeder Effortlessly And Cost-Free
If you would like to add a new bird feeder to your backyard, it's not necessary to go to the store and pay a lot of money for one. You actually can make bird feeders at your home. It's simple and fast, and you are not going to need that many materials for it either.
What you need to start out with is a simple one gallon milk jug. Obviously, wash it out completely first to make sure there isn't any leftover residue from the milk in it. Allow it to dry, and once it is dry, then place the cap on the container and stand it up in the area you're going to work.
On each side of the handle, cut holes that are around 3 inches in diameter. The holes need to be fairly high on the jug to ensure the bird seed will not leak out from the jug when you are ready to use it.
Below the big holes, use a nail to punch a little hole, in which you can insert dowels. The dowels are where the birds can come and perch to eat the food. Just make sure that the perch sticks out two inches on each side so birds may easily perch.
Use the nail again to punch openings in the milk jug neck. This should be done an inch or so below the cap of the milk jug. Then you'll get some wire and run it through the pockets, twisting it together on top. That is what you will use to hang up the bird feeder.
Now you are done making your simple bird feeder. All you have to do is fill it up with some birdseed. Take it outdoors and use the wire ends to hang it from a tree or another type of support in the yard. In order to attract a variety of birds, opt for black oil sunflower seeds in your new bird feeder.
